This year the National Day holiday falls on Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 November, and with the weekend that gives most people four days off. For a business with a call desk, your three busiest days of the month come straight before your four quietest. Plan the next 25 days well and you keep those bookings. Plan them badly and the calls you missed come back as complaints on Sunday 29 November.
The November calendar, day by day
The holiday dates come from the government's advance holiday list, published on 28 December 2025. The celebrated dates, 20 and 21 November, fall on a Friday and Saturday this year, so the celebrations and the days off are five days apart. Your customers will mix them up. Here is what each stretch sounds like on the phone.
| When | What is happening | What callers ask |
|---|---|---|
| Early November | Car decoration season opens (in 2025 the window opened on 5 November) | Can you fit flag stickers? Is this one allowed? |
| 11 to 19 November | Promotions in full swing | Is the National Day offer still on? |
| Fri 20 and Sat 21 November | National Day celebrations | Are you open today? |
| Sun 22 to Tue 24 November | Last working days before the break | Can you fit me in before Wednesday? |
| Wed 25 to Sat 28 November | Official holiday plus weekend | Breakdowns, urgent help, bookings for next week |
| Sun 29 and Mon 30 November | Back at work | Why did nobody call me back? |
Where the calls pile up
Take Saif, a composite example: service manager at a car dealership in Al Khuwair, with four service advisers on the phones. Last November, three kinds of call hit his line at once. Fleet managers wanted 30 company vehicles fitted with National Day decorations before the 20th. Customers rang about the service offer. And families wanted their cars checked before driving to Salalah or Jebel Akhdar over the long weekend.
Most of them waited until the last three working days. The recorded phone menu (the IVR) played its options while every adviser was already on a call. What finally flattened Saif's peak comes later, and most of it cost nothing.
Your busiest three days of November come straight before the four days your desk is closed, and both land on the same phone line.
What an overflowing desk costs
Here is Saif's sum. Put your own figures in the last column. The numbers are composite, but the method works for a clinic, a hotel or an insurer just as well.
| Step | Saif's desk | Your desk |
|---|---|---|
| Calls on a normal day | 220 | Your figure |
| Calls per day, Sun 22 to Tue 24 November | 380 | Your figure |
| What 4 advisers can handle per day (60 each) | 240 | Your figure |
| Calls not answered per peak day | 140 | Your figure |
| Over three peak days | 420 | Your figure |
| Share who would have booked (1 in 4) | 105 | Your figure |
| Average service job | OMR 60 | Your figure |
| Revenue at risk before the holiday | OMR 6,300 | Your figure |
| Calls to a closed desk, 25 to 28 November (80 a day) | 320 | Your figure |
That OMR 6,300 does not include the fleet manager who could not get through and took 30 vehicles somewhere else. It also leaves out the 320 people who rang during the break and heard nothing useful.
Every November the phones tell me the same thing: everyone wants their car done before the holiday, and nobody books early.
Messages to schedule now
The cheapest call is the one that never needs to happen. Write these messages this week and set send dates, so the answers reach customers before they pick up the phone.
- Sun 8 November: to customers due a service, "Beat the holiday rush: book between 11 and 19 November."
- Wed 11 November: to fleet and corporate accounts, decoration fitting slots, plus the Royal Oman Police sticker rules once announced.
- Wed 18 November: holiday hours to everyone with an open booking: closed 25 to 28 November, back Sunday 29 November, with the emergency number.
- Tue 24 November: a reminder to everyone booked for the first week back.
- Sun 29 November: "We are back", with an easy way to rebook anything that slipped.
Send promotions only to customers who have agreed to receive them. For the wording of the holiday-hours message, see our guide to announcing holiday hours.
The countdown from two weeks out
| Date | Task |
|---|---|
| Wed 11 November | Open extra slots for 11 to 19 November. Brief the team on the offer terms. |
| Sun 15 November | Write a one-page answer sheet: holiday dates, offer terms, sticker rules, emergency number. Phone, WhatsApp and the front desk all use it. |
| Wed 18 November | Update the IVR greeting, your map listing and the website banner. |
| Thu 19 November | Lock the holiday roster and budget compensation for anyone working on 25 or 26 November. |
| Sun 22 to Tue 24 November | Check missed calls at noon each day and call back before closing. |
| Tue 24 November | Switch on the holiday greeting when the desk closes. |
| Sun 29 November | Call back every number from the break before noon, oldest first. |
How Saif closed the gap
Saif did three things. First, he phoned his fleet accounts in early November and booked their decoration work for the 8th to the 15th, which took the biggest jobs out of the peak week. Second, his scheduled messages pulled dozens of services forward into the quieter days before the 20th.
Third, he stopped letting calls ring out. An AI voice agent picked up whenever all four advisers were busy, and it answered the whole line over the four-day break. A caller could say "Abi asawi service qabl il-ijaza, mumkin yom il-ithnain?" ("I want a service before the holiday, is Monday possible?") and the agent understood, checked the service calendar, booked the slot and logged the call. Breakdowns went straight to the on-call adviser. On Sunday 29 November Saif had a list of confirmed bookings instead of a pile of voicemails.
What this means for you
You cannot make the rush smaller, but you can spread it out. Bring your biggest jobs forward, send the answers before people need to ask, and decide today who or what picks up the phone when every line is busy and when the office is closed. If you leave it to Sunday 22 November, you are already in the peak.
Is the holiday definitely 25 and 26 November?
Those are the dates on the official 2026 list. Last year a formal announcement also came in mid-November, so watch for it and update your messages if anything changes.
When can customers put National Day stickers on cars?
The 2026 rules had not been announced when this article was written. In 2025 the Royal Oman Police allowed stickers from 5 to 30 November, on the rear window only, with nothing on the windscreen, side windows or bonnet.
Do I need the full team in over the break?
Usually not. A small on-call rota for emergencies, plus cover that takes bookings and messages, keeps customers looked after while most of the team takes the holiday.
The bottom line
November gives you a promotion season, decoration season and a four-day break, all inside one month. The desks that come through well are the ones that booked early, sent their messages on schedule and made sure no call went unanswered. Start with the message for 8 November.
