National Day is celebrated on 20 November, but this year the official days off are Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 November. Add the weekend and most offices are closed from the 25th until Sunday the 29th. If you are getting your business National Day ready, that gap matters: your service desk gets two waves instead of one, and missing either one costs you bookings and leaves you a Sunday morning buried in callbacks.
Two peaks, five days apart
The Ministry of Labour's holiday calendar puts the 2026 National Day break on 25 and 26 November, not on the celebration days themselves. Some online calendars still show other dates, and plenty of callers will go by habit. Here is how the month looks from a service desk.
| Dates | What is happening | What callers ask |
|---|---|---|
| Now to Thu 19 Nov | Promotions, decorations, flags going up | Offer details, sticker bookings, stock |
| Fri 20 to Sat 21 Nov | Celebration weekend | Are you open? Can I still get the offer? |
| Sun 22 to Tue 24 Nov | Last working days before the break | Can you fit me in before the holiday? |
| Wed 25 to Sat 28 Nov | Official holiday plus weekend | Is anyone there? Who do I call? |
| Sun 29 Nov | First day back | Why did nobody call me back? |
A team sized for an ordinary week meets the first wave, gets two days of quiet, then meets a sharper second wave. After that come four days when nobody may be answering at all.
National Day falls on the 20th, but the days off are the 25th and 26th, so this November your phones will peak twice.
What the calls are actually about
Most November calls are not complaints. They are the same few questions, asked hundreds of times. At a dealership they look like this:
- Promotion questions: which models, which service packages, until when.
- Decoration bookings, from families and from companies that want their whole fleet done before the 20th.
- Sticker rules: "Can I put the flag on the side window?" The Royal Oman Police allows National Day stickers from 1 to 30 November. On 4x4s they may go on the rear windshield (only if the driver can still see out), a fixed side window or the body. They are not allowed on the front or side windshields or the bonnet. Fabric is banned, and so are Crown and Dagger designs.
- Service slots before the break, and opening hours over the holiday.
Each of these takes an operator two or three minutes. That is fine on a normal day. In a peak it is the reason the caller with a real problem is still on hold.
What a fixed-size team loses
Take a composite example. Mazin runs the service call desk for a dealership group with three branches in Muscat. Five agents each handle about 60 calls a day, so the desk can take 300 calls. In a normal week that is enough. What Mazin changed for November comes later, and it was not hiring more agents. First, the sums. Swap in your own numbers.
| Line | Normal day | Promo weeks (8 to 19 Nov) | Pre-holiday (22 to 24 Nov) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Calls offered per day | 300 | 400 | 500 |
| Desk capacity (5 agents x 60) | 300 | 300 | 300 |
| Calls not answered | 0 | 100 | 200 |
| Lost bookings (1 in 4 missed calls) | 0 | 25 | 50 |
| Revenue at risk per day (OMR 45 per service) | OMR 0 | OMR 1,125 | OMR 2,250 |
| Working days in the period | n/a | 10 | 3 |
| Revenue at risk for the period | OMR 0 | OMR 11,250 | OMR 6,750 |
That comes to OMR 18,000 at risk across 13 working days, before you count the four holiday days. Some of those customers will call back. Many will book wherever answered first.
Every November I learn the same lesson: the holiday is two days, but the calls about it last three weeks.
Why the phone menu makes it worse
An IVR (the recorded menu that says "press 1 for sales, press 2 for service") has no option for "is this sticker legal" or "are you open on the 26th". So callers press 0, join the same queue as everyone else and wait. The menu does not take any work off the team. It just makes callers wait longer before they reach a person.
The messages to schedule now
Every question you answer before the customer picks up the phone is a call your team never has to take. Write these this week and schedule them on WhatsApp, SMS and email to customers who have agreed to hear from you:
- Sun 8 Nov: the offer, how to book, and the sticker rules in four short lines.
- Wed 18 Nov: "Book before the break" to customers whose service is due.
- Sun 22 Nov: holiday hours. Closed Wed 25 to Sat 28, open again Sun 29, and how to reach you meanwhile.
- Tue 24 Nov at closing: the holiday greeting goes live on the phone line and the auto-replies.
- Sun 29 Nov: "We are back", plus a personal call to everyone who tried to reach you during the break.
For wording that keeps holiday hours clear, see announcing holiday hours so nobody is surprised.
Your two-week countdown
| Date | Task | Owner |
|---|---|---|
| By Wed 11 Nov | Confirm holiday hours for 25 to 28 Nov. Write a one-page answer sheet covering the ten questions callers ask most. | Operations lead |
| Wed 11 Nov | Schedule all five messages. Arrange extra cover for 22 to 24 Nov. | Service supervisor |
| Sun 15 Nov | Update the phone greeting, website and map listing hours. | Front office lead |
| Wed 18 Nov | Send the book-before-the-break message. Lock in fleet decoration slots. | Service desk |
| Sun 22 Nov | Send the holiday hours message. Test the out-of-hours line with a real call. | Supervisor |
| Tue 24 Nov | Holiday greeting live at closing. Callback list ready. | Front office lead |
| Sun 29 Nov | Work through the callback list before taking new calls. | Whole desk |
What Mazin changed
Mazin split the work. His agents kept what needs a person: fleet orders, quotes, warranty disputes, upset customers. The repeat questions went to an AI agent on the same phone number. It answers from the answer sheet, books the slot in the service calendar and sends a confirmation by WhatsApp.
A caller can say "Salam, aba ahjiz service lil Patrol qabl el ijaza, fi wagt yom el thalatha?" and get a Tuesday slot booked, without pressing a single button. Over 25 to 28 November the same agent stays on the line, takes bookings for Sunday 29th and logs every enquiry. On Sunday the team starts from a sorted list, not a voicemail box. This is the kind of work Agentic Customer Care by CustomerCare.OM is built to do for businesses that already staff a phone line.
Give the repeat questions to a script or an agent, and keep your people for the calls that genuinely need a person.
What this means for you
Plan November as two peaks and a closed stretch, not as one holiday. Pull last November's call log if you have one and check which days were busiest. Then decide, this week, which questions a message or an agent can answer and which ones only your team can. If you are a customer, check the business's holiday hours before the 25th and book anything urgent by Tuesday the 24th.
Are the 2026 National Day days off really 25 and 26 November?
Yes. The Ministry of Labour's 2026 holiday calendar lists Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 November. With the weekend, that makes a four-day break.
Until when can cars carry National Day stickers?
The Royal Oman Police allows them from 1 to 30 November 2026, as long as they follow the placement rules.
Do we need to answer calls during the holiday?
Nothing obliges you to, but callers will try. At the very least, give them a clear greeting, a way to leave their details and a callback on Sunday 29th.
The bottom line
This November brings a promotion rush, a pre-holiday rush and four quiet days, and each needs its own plan. Schedule the messages now, take the repeat questions off your agents and have someone own the callback list. That way the celebration costs you nothing at the desk.
